Low level aerial photography in commercial shoots

Using low level aerial photography in commercial shoots Drone Media Imaging were delighted to be working once again with our friends at Primrose Hall Nurseries.  We have produced images for them before, although it was on ground level, for their groundbreaking stand at the Chelsea Flower Show. Primrose Hall are one of the country’s leading specialists in peonies – specialising in providing rare and unusual blooms to both domestic and commercial customers across the UK. As well as it being important to them to have good clear images of the flowers that they have available for their website, they also want to showcase the personalities of the blooms that they sell and so they have a strong artistic vision for the kind of lifestyle images that they want to showcase.  It is in this capacity that we became involved with them again on their annual visit to their suppliers overseas. We travelled with them on a very early flight to Holland and paid a visit to a number of their specialist peony

Drones and Construction Projects

Drones and Construction Projects - Getting the Bird’s Eye View Drones offer a cost efficient way of improving a number of areas of a construction project, vastly cutting down the health and safety requirements of deploying staff to hard to access, high risk areas such as rooftops, and making regular inspection and monitoring both quick and easy. - Planning - Surveying - Photogrammetry Mapping - Analysing - Stakeholder Information - Creating Records - Marketing Planning, Design and Mapping At the planning stage, drones can provide a valuable asset in offering a quick and easy way to create a topographical map of a site.  The high level of detail means that these can be taken to architects for the basis for their designs to maximise the site space, work around any problems and take advantage of any opportunities.  Basing their designs on real world, accurate images can save time later by dealing with any problems at the design stage rather than having to make expensive adjustments during

Invisible Mannequin Clothing Photography

Invisible or Ghost Mannequin Clothing Photography Invisible mannequin, ghost mannequin or hollow man clothing photography is an extremely cost effective and eye catching way to photograph your clothing range. As you can see by some recent images that we created to advertise a company's range of clothing, the clothing is photographed on a model or mannequin that is removed during the post production process to give the clothing a 3D look. It allows you to showcase your clothing both inside and out with the distraction of a real mannequin or model who may also hide some of the detail that you would like to reveal.   Most clothing requires a body shape inside of it to show it at it's best - flat laid images are always likely to be less appealing to your potential buyers.  It is a particularly effective method if you are looking to show off interior detail such as linings and also allows customers to visualise themselves in the clothes rather than comparing themselves to a model wh

Product Photography Opus Genie Wipes

Opus Innovations Genie Wipes In history, there hasn’t been a time when the world’s eyes have been so focused on environmental issues and especially on the use of plastics in our day to day lives.  Shocking images of the pollution that plastic is causing are never far from view as you scroll on your news feed and many companies are now working hard to reap the environmental and financial rewards of finding alternatives. Opus Innovations are one such company – they have placed environmental issues at the very heart of their business model.  They strive to produce hygiene and baby products that use less plastic and chemicals and provide a real affordable alternative to our needs.  We’ve worked with them before when they launched their chemical free sanitiser range, and we were delighted when they returned to us with their brand-new product – Genie Wipes. We were asked to partner with them to create images and video to accompany this brand-new product launch of this innovative wet wipe pro

How Often to Inspect Solar Panels

Why is Regular Solar PV Inspection Important? Why is Regular Solar PV Inspection Important? Solar panels are becoming an increasingly common sight on rooftops across the UK and there are any number of companies that can offer a quick and easy installation for you. In a matter of weeks, you can be saving money on your electricity bill! However, once your installation is complete, it’s really important to keep on top of the inspection and maintenance routines to make sure it’s functioning both safely and efficiently. Failing Solar Photovoltaic Panels not only will lose you money and missed opportunity, it can in extreme conditions present a fire hazard – Read here about a Solar Panel fire at a Walmart Store. Drone Media Imaging solar panel service offers a hassle-free thermal inspection to check that your panels are working as they should. Is it important to inspect Solar Panels regularly? One of the first checks you’ll want to perform is a post installation assessment to make sure tha

How is Photogrammetry Used Today

Photogrammetry in Commercial Applications The many uses of photogrammetry The use of photogrammetry is diverse, from simple orthomosaics, digital terrain and surface terrain models to specialist 3D models, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) and thermograms, photogrammetry covers a very full spectrum of commercial applications. - An orthomosaic is a birds-eye perspective of surface topography, where the resulting stitched picture has been accurately reproduced from multiple smaller pictures. - Digital Surface Models (DSM) is an elevation model that captures both the environment’s natural and artificial features. It includes the tops of buildings, trees, powerlines, and any other objects. Commonly, this is seen as a canopy model and only ‘see’s ground where there is nothing else above it. - A Digital Terrain Model (DTM) is a bare-earth elevation model. DTMs do not contain any features above the bare-earth, even persistent ones. Thus, they can be paired with DSMs to deri

Fixed Price Product Photography

WEBSITES / AMAZON STORES / EBAY SHOPS / ETSY If you are in the business of selling products either online or in retail stores on your website, then at some point you will have looked at how to portray those products to your potential customers.  Never has there been a time when we have all been more bombarded with visual imagery, and it can be hard to make sure that your company’s photographs hold their own and rise above the competition. Professional product photography can be key to maintaining your brand presence and increasing your sales either through your own website or with your potential clients and distributors. At the most basic level, your customers demand to see clear product photos before they make the choice to purchase with you. High quality images that can be zoomed into to allow all the little details to be seen are vital in building trust with your customer base. For many products, being able to view the product from all angles is also a valuable sales tool.  With o

Solar Panel Installations on Domestic Roofs

Solar Panels for the Home Installing solar panels on the roof of your home offer you long term advantages in terms of reducing your energy bill as well as your carbon footprint.  However, in order to maximise your investment and ensure that your panels are operating both efficiently and safely, regular inspections are advised. With more than 4000 solar panels being installed in the UK each month, they are becoming an increasingly common sight on domestic rooftops.  Their popularity means that the costs have been consistently falling over time.  Pairing this with the increase in panel quality as new technologies have been developed, relying on the power of the sun for at least part of your energy needs has become a very real possibility.  Domestic solar panel installations can… - Add to your home value – home energy efficiency is important to many people now and having a solar energy option already installed can be very attractive to buyers. - Provide electricity all year round – they

Opus Innovations Sanitising Product Shoot

Commercial Product Photography for Opus Innovations Ltd There’s been a huge upturn in the sales of sanitising products since March 2020 for obvious reasons but they’re not a new product by any means.  We have been working with Opus Innovations recently who have been working to create innovative sanitising and baby care products since 2009. Opus was born when the two founders were working in Japan to launch a product and discovered that there was an antibacterial water that was safe enough to use on a newborn, on food, on feeding bottled and even to ingest.  They saw the potential of this amazing product that also contained no alcohol, harmful chemicals or preservatives and a mere 12 months later, a factory was set up in the UK to manufacture their equivalent product – Aquaint 100% Natural Sanitising Water. It’s a brand new type of 100% natural sanitising water that kills 99.9% bacteria in seconds and can be used in so many settings from birth, so not just for a pandemic! They wanted ne

Product Websites That Sell

There’s lots of articles out there about leveraging increased sale from your website and with online business forming such an important part of many firm’s sales offerings these days, I’m always interested to read them. One thing that consistently gets a mention is the quality of the images and videos that you use to present your products. When a potential buyer can’t see and touch your products in person, it’s really important for them to feel that they can at least look at them in some detail on your website before making a purchase. Folk are so used to shopping online now that high quality images that can be zoomed into, really will be enough for them to decide if the product is right for them or not.  Without this, there’s a chance that they will be unsure of the quality and move onto the next retailer. Most clothing web sites already offer photographs of outfits that you can rotate and zoom in and pan across the product. The 360 degree rotation approach seems very popular with sho

The Process of Collecting Survey Grade Data

Photogrammetry: The Process of Collecting Survey Grade Photo Data The job of aerial mapping and surveying depends on high accuracy and precision. Using GPS correction technology precise positioning data and information for the drone can be achieved while it is deployed. Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) systems built into survey grade drone technology expand upon and increase the already existing centimeter accurate Ground Control Point techniques (GCP) and Post Processing Kinematic (PPK) techniques used by surveyors. What is Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) and Post Processing Kinematic (PPK) RTK is an application of surveying to correct for common errors in current global navigation satellite systems (GNSS). When the signal from satellites travels towards the receiver, it goes through 20,200 km of ionosphere and atmosphere down to Earth. The ionospheric effect significantly slows the signal and also can disturb it on the way. In addition, many factors, such as clouds, or obstacles, can affect the t

What Is Photogrammetry?

How Drone Photos Turn into 2D and 3D Surveys “Photogrammetry” is a process for measuring actual distances through the study of photographs. In aerial Photogrammetry, aerial digital pictures taken by drones are used to gather detailed physical information from the ground. Realistic and precise photo maps and 3D reconstructions of topographic surfaces are then generated by merging enough of these overlapping pictures into orthomosaic 2D stitched maps and 3D models accordingly. With drone photogrammetry, precise GPS data and GIS expertise, specialists surveyors can utilise this technology to generate models for use in such environments as infrastructure, waste management, mining, and aggregate workflow processing, to name a few as there are a multiple of applications that drone photogrammetry can be used. Humans use Photogrammetry When Looking at Objects Photogrammetry can be understood when we consider what we do ourselves with our own eyes. The human eyes receive two distinct inputs at

Drones and 3D Modelling - July Special Offer

3D modelling of your commercial property is now an affordable reality thanks to drone technology. Creating a 3D model is a much simpler process than you might think, given the new available technology and software today. An hour’s flight time from one of our drone operators utilising our state of the art UAV and camera payloads is usually all that is needed to ensure accurate aerial photographs are taken from all angles for the property. A number of preplanned flight paths will be flown across the property both to gather plan view shots as well as elevation shots to ensure we have the required data to create the model.  One week later, you will be in receipt of all the code and imagery that you need to embed the finished interactive model into your website and social media accounts and to link it to your clients and potential clients to allow them to explore it for themselves. - Wedding & Event Venues - Property Marketing - Architects - Construction & Landscape Gardening -

Drones & Roof Inspections

When you normally think about having a roof inspection, you likely think of ladders at least and scaffolding at worst.  A human being has to climb on up to the roof with all of the health and safety considerations that this incurs, not to mention the potential for damage to the roof itself during the inspection process. Drones carrying both standard and thermal cameras offer you the opportunity to carry out a thorough and detailed inspection of the roof from all angles with minimal human intervention – minimising the time, set up and safety risks of traditional inspection methods.  Provided that the inspection can be carried with the landowners permission (required for the takeoff and landing site of the drone) the UAV can fly over the roof both recording what is there and also providing live flight data to pinpoint areas for closer or further inspection.  Maintenance teams can then be deployed in a targeted way to problem areas if required, making a cost saving and minimising any disr

Ebbsfleet Garden City Development - BBC One Show

Ebbsfleet Garden City is an exciting housing development that’s currently taking shape in Kent. We were delighted to be invited to work again with the BBC One Show to provide aerial footage of the development for a piece that they are producing. The vision for the new city is expansive incorporating both business and residential areas with improved public transport, riverside walks, seven city parks, schools and commercial areas designed to provide both local employment as well as a healthy and inviting space in which to live and work. The wide open spaces of the area as it currently stands were perfect for creating aerial footage and we focused on capturing both the scale and detail of the development.  Opposite are a collection of clips that formed part of the overall finished piece on the BBC. #aerial #BBC #drone #Ebbsfleet #GardenCity #Kent #lake #OneShow #quarry Ebbsfleet Garden City Development - BBC One Show #aerial #BBC #drone #Ebbsfleet #GardenCity #Kent #lake #OneShow #quar

13 Months of Grain Store Fire Monitoring

Thermal Fire Monitoring Following a Grain Store Terminal Explosion Grain Store Explosion and Year-Long Fire – July 5, 2020 – Tilbury Port, London On July 5, 2020, a series of events (possibly by a spark) triggered a large dust explosion and a subsequent fire at the Grain Store Terminal at the Port of Tilbury in London. This was a serious event that required the attention of a large-scale emergency response to get the subsequent grain fire under control and avoid additional explosions. No one was seriously hurt, which is nothing short of a miracle given the number of people on the scene and the amount of reinforced concrete and debris thrown high into the sky before raining down on the surrounding buildings. Traditional firefighting methods and techniques are ineffective in the case of grain storage fires. Using water to extinguish the inferno is ineffective with grain and dust fires, and the added weight might have caused a catastrophic structural collapse, exacerbating an already chal

Be the Face of your Business!

If you’re a small, owner managed business, you have so many different roles to play that it’s easy to forget that you are, as far as your clients are concerned the face of your business. When they are searching for people with your skill set online (and these days, unless you’re in a prominent physical location, it’s more likely that they’ll search online than find any other way), you have 20 seconds to make a first impression and hold their interest for long enough to be able to deliver your message.  So your profile photo really does need to be more than an after thought or a picture that you use to simply get ‘something’ out there.  The impression that you make on your potential clients needs to reflect the values of your business and a professional business head shot is one really easy and effective way to do this. Your photograph should feature on your social media accounts as well as your website and you will also be asked for it to accompany any articles that you wish to submit

Marketing your Small Business

Marketing Your Small Business There are many small business owners who have already set in motion their plans to make 2020/21 their most profitable and successful year ever.  There is no doubt that working for yourself has its advantage but it can be tough, especially if you are working alone. A national media group recently published a study that cited marketing as the business challenge facing small businesses.  Marketing is so much more than advertising – it’s about adding your company’s value at the heart of everything you do so it shines out to your potential clients as they come across in either the real or digital worlds. In the case of the small business owner, your clients want to engage as much with you as with the products and services that you provide. Your branding is not just your logo – it’s your individual voice in the world and it is derived from your unique values and vision.  Once you know what you want to say and how you want to say it , it is so much easier to appl

Do Business Headshots Matter ?

Why do Commercial Headshots Matter? It’s undeniable that we are living in an age where there’s more than a good chance that the first-time people see you in an employment context, it will be in the form of an image online. Whether this be for a job application, or prior to a business meeting or potential sale, your online presentation is just as important as your in-person style now.  That, of course, will vary according to the field in which you work – a suit and tie might not be required for many occupations – but the professionalism of the image that you need to project remains just as important. A quick scroll through LinkedIn shows that many folk are still using selfies and poor quality phone photos as their profile image in this business to business arena and, while books shouldn’t be judged by their covers, it’s something that we all do.  Your professional online presence should be just that – professional. When we talk about headshots in this context, we’re not talking about b
